The English department offers a variety of course offerings:

The study of literature, grammar, developmental reading, writing and speaking, which comprise the four-year sequence in English, develops the students' ability to communicate effectively, to think logically and critically, and to understand and appreciate our literary heritage.  All reading, writing, listening and speaking activities reflect the Learning Standards for English Language Arts.

Seniors must take English 12 RX in the fall semester.  In the spring semester they may choose from Modern Novel, Creative Writing, and Film Study. The Junior high students have courses such as  English 7R, English 7A, 7th Grade Language Enrichment, English Enrichment, Language Enrichment, English 8R, and English 8A. Junior high classes also focus on the 7th and 8th grade NYS ELA which is administered in the Spring.

Students of all grades and levels visit the Computer Writing Lab at least four times a year.  While in the writing lab, students work on written assignments while learning to use word processing software as a tool to improve writing skills.  Students create an electric portfolio of writing samples which are stored under their personal logins every year.

English 9, 10, and 11 also focus on preparation for the Comprehensive English Regents Exam, a requirement for graduation.  Additionally, English 11 and 12 help to prepare students for the new PSAT/SAT exams.
